The charity was founded in 2003 by Geoff and Liz Furber, who share a deep passion for Africa, particularly northern Malawi. During a memorable trip—thanks to some questionable map reading—they stumbled upon the village of Mwaya and instantly fell in love with the area.

They are dedicated to long-term projects that are led by local people and operate at a grassroots level. They involve the community in every aspect of their work, ensuring that local communities can build a positive, prosperous, and happier future in this incredible country. They collaborate with farmers and communities in three Districts in Malawi to plant millions of trees each year, ensuring a sustainable source of timber and firewood.

Their extensive tree planting initiative is among the largest and most effective in the country, addressing deforestation and safeguarding 340 sq.kms of forest with the support of over 1,830 Forest Conservation Committee members. These local volunteers play a crucial role in educating the community, enforcing conservation bylaws, and fining those caught cutting down trees. Once protected, they are seeing these areas naturally regenerate, securing the forest for future generations.

They also support locals by planting fruit trees for food, income and distributing fruit trees to schools, promoting environmental awareness among students.
